The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Come, go down to the potter’s house, and there I will let you hear my words.” So I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was working at his wheel. The vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter’s hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as seemed good to him.

Then the word of the Lord came to me: Can I not do with you, O house of Israel, just as this potter has done? says the Lord. Just like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. (Jeremiah 18:1-6)

We believe that God molds us and shapes us throughout our lives. God uses community, worship, prayer, spiritual disciplines, and many of other things to change us from the inside out.

One of the primary ways that God shapes us is through the Word of God. The Bible is a living document that continues to breathe fresh spirit into our lives.

Beginning on Wednesday, September 6, at 10:00 AM our Wednesday Morning Bible Study will enter into a series called Texts that Shape Us. Each week during this series, one of Ardmore’s ministers will be teaching through a text that God has used to shape us into who we are today. Our prayer is that by sharing these texts and our stories, you too will be shaped and molded into who God is calling you to be.

Some of these details may change, but here is the tentative schedule for our series:

  • September 6 – Tyler Tankersley (Leviticus 1:1-17)
  • September 13 – Gina Brock (Exodus 32:7-14)
  • September 20 – Alan Gill (Luke 24:1-53)
  • September 27 – DeNeal Fowler (Matthew 10)
  • October 4 – Amy Gallaher (Ruth 4)
  • October 11 – Lee Ritchie (Exodus 3:1-22)
  • October 18 – David Fitzgerald (Proverbs 3:5-6)
  • October 25 – Jim Davidson (Philippians)
  • November 1 – Dane Martin (James 1:1-27)

After the Texts that Shape Us series wraps up, I will be leading an expository-style study through Daniel.

I also want to invite you to be part of a time of contemplative prayer in the Sanctuary on Wednesday mornings called simply Sanctuary Prayer. This will be led by John Griffenhagen, Jay Van Nostrand, and Rick Jordan and will run from 9:15-9:45 AM. Each week, we will enter into the prayer rhythms of adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication as we listen for the voice of God to speak to us.
