Experience the Church

Everyone is welcome at Ardmore Baptist Church! Our goal is to connect people of all ages with Jesus Christ and each other to form life-changing relationships. We follow a shared ministry model, which gives everyone in our church a place to explore their gifts and use them to live out their passions and calling as a disciple. Whatever your strengths or interests, you’ll have a place here with us and our church.

All people are called to serve God and God’s people; all are called to be ministers working to achieve the purposes of God.”

Our Beginnings

Our story began in 1927

The church was founded as Tabernacle Baptist Church with just 36 congregants who saw the need for a Baptist church in the new and growing Ardmore neighborhood. The area was at the time referred to as the West End and devoid of any Baptist church. Volunteers worked diligently for 17 days to build the original wooden church structure across three lots, which had been purchased for $7,500.

Construction of a new three-story building began in 1939, and in 1942 the construction of Brown Auditorium was completed on the corner of Irving and Rosemary streets. This new church sanctuary became the most modern church in Winston-Salem.

Our Congregation’s History

Over the years, we have been part of numerous outreach and involvement efforts in our community. We solidified our focus on the wider community in 1931 by helping fund the organization of a Baptist church in the Smith Grove Community. Since then, as we’ve grown, we’ve been able to connect with our community, both locally and worldwide, in a number of ways.
