Have you ever heard the term “God Wink?” I learned this term from a friend who told me a “God Wink” is when an unexpected revelation of God occurs; when God reveals to us His presence in an unexpected way that provides encouragement and assurance of his goodness and his love. A few weeks ago, at our Arts at Ardmore Series Artist Showcase, I encountered a “God Wink.” As our featured artist, Betty Vettor, was speaking to the room full of visitors, she shared about her life, her talent, and what inspires her as an artist. As she spoke, I could see the guests becoming captivated by Betty’s story. They began to connect with her and ask her many questions. Then all of a sudden that “God Wink” appeared. Someone asked Betty what was her favorite medium of painting. She replied, “I like working with oil paint because if you make a mistake, you can just wipe it away and start over. It’s like what God does with us. When we make mistakes, God can wipe them away and give us a fresh start!” Wow! What an unexpected testimony of God’s love and forgiveness! Betty continued to relate her talent with her faith in God and ended her talk with a beautiful poem she had written about God’s goodness and blessings. We had not asked Betty to do this. It was truly an unexpected “God Wink!” I give thanks for those special “God Winks” and how God reveals himself through the arts and through artists who share their faith with others through their God-given talents. This past week I received a wonderful note from Betty thanking Ardmore Baptist for this opportunity and how it has been a real encouragement for her to continue to use her talent as an artist. “God Wink?” Yes! God at work? Definitely!
