Sisters and brothers of Ardmore Baptist Church,
Back in January, the Administrative Council of Deacons presented some possible changes to our Bylaws for consideration by the congregation. The vast majority of those edits were widely accepted and garnered no discussion. However, a suggested provision that limited service on the Deacon Council to any staff spouses, parents, or children created a significant amount of dialogue and was ultimately not adopted by the church.
In the subsequent months, your Deacon Admin Council has been diligently and prayerfully considering how best to move forward. They feel strongly that the edits to the Bylaws that did not cause any discussion are still worthy of congregational consideration. Furthermore, the Deacon Admin Council has altered its original suggestion regarding service on the Deacon Council. The new edit (which was approved by a majority of the Deacon Body) would prohibit service on the Deacon Council by the spouses of staff members only.
The following documents may be accessed by clicking on each item.
- A copy of the Bylaws as they currently stand
- A copy of the Revised Bylaws (Amended and Restated Bylaws)
- A summary document of the substantive changes that are being proposed by the Deacon Admin Council
These proposed changes to the Bylaws will be brought before the congregation at our Church Conference on Sunday, July 28, at 4:00 PM. Before that day, we want to provide every opportunity possible for all perspectives to be heard. Therefore, we will be holding two Listening Sessions this summer for anybody and everybody to come and express their views:
- Sunday, June 30, 9:30-10:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall
- Sunday, July 21, 5:00-6:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall
Furthermore, we will be providing an Absentee Voting procedure prior to the Church Conference. You will receive an email at least a month before Church Conference with instructions on how to vote absentee should you wish to do so.
Thank you all for your wisdom, kindness, and faithfulness as we all seek to follow Christ together.
