As a kid, each year my brother, sister, and I would participate in multiple VBSs across southeast Missouri. We would go to our home church’s, then to my Aunt Kristi’s church, and finally to my Aunt Cathy’s church. The weeks began to run together into an amalgamation of peppy songs, parking lot rec games, and watered-down Kool-Aid.
But my faith was formed during those VBS weeks. And it wasn’t because I can recall the Bible studies or can remember all of the songs. My faith was formed because, each summer, a group of adults sacrificed time, energy, and creativity to tell me about Jesus.
Next week, I invite all of us to be holding in prayer the adult volunteers who will be leading our Creative Arts Camp. This year our VBS is combining with our Music and Arts Camp to create a different experience for families. Our church will be brimming with kids of all ages who will be guided by volunteers in games, worship, snacks, and Bible Study.
Please pray that each and every child who walks through our doors would be able to hear the name of Jesus and they will know that they are deeply loved by this good and gracious King!
