Today’s guest blogger is Ann Cannup who is one of the fearless leaders of the Ardmore Global Women Mission Group that has been meeting for over 20 years. Check out her story of their missions involvement and why she loves it.

I chose to become a member of Global Women of Ardmore because I identified with their mission statement: “Motivated by the love and mercy of Jesus Christ, Global Women exists to create worldwide friendships among women for shared learning and service.”

Through Global Women I, and other members of our group, have had opportunities to help support a sewing school in Nepal, a school for nursing assistants in the Philippines, an organization in Moldova who assisted young girls who are vulnerable to human trafficking, to provide two solar cookers for a village in Africa so women would not have to leave the village to gather wood in areas where they could easily be kidnapped or sexually assaulted.  Other opportunities included providing simple water purification fountains in Africa, providing book bags and supplies for a school in Zimbabwe as well as contributing financial assistance to expand the school.  All of these contributions, and many others, gave me a sense of joy to help alleviate some of the poverty and suffering experienced by many women and children world-wide.  The needs are so great.  Global Women reached out to these women in the name of Jesus Christ.

Locally, Global Women have had a long-time partnership with many local ministries. One such ministry is Solus Christus, a residential stepping stone for women who desire freedom from substance abuse, located in Yadkin County.  For a number of years, our group has made an annual trip in the Spring to provide a meal for the residents there.  Over lunch, we engage in conversation and offer a listening ear.  We usually provide a craft and share in activities such as making jewelry or crafting handmade greeting cards.  The residents are very receptive and seem to enjoy our offer of friendship.  At other times throughout the year, we deliver supplies such as cleaning supplies, paper products, handmade tote bags we call Totes of Hope, filled with notepaper, pens, pencils, devotional thoughts, toiletries, etc.  I believe God blesses our efforts to share His love in these tangible gifts that express our love and support for these, our sisters.  Each time, as we leave, I am thankful to God for the many opportunities He gives us to share His love with those around us who need to know someone cares.
