Pipe Organ
Our new pipe organ was designed and built by the Reuter Organ Company of Lawrence, Kansas, as their Opus 2219. It was planned as an instrument of worship, rather than a recital instrument, and is capable of accompanying soloists, choirs, and full congregational singing. It is designed specifically for the size and volume of our sanctuary and voiced according to the acoustical patterns of our room.
With three manuals and pedals, Ardmore’s organ has more than 2600 pipes. The pipes range in size from the largest at twenty feet with a sixteen foot speaking length to the smallest being the length and diameter of a pencil with a speaking length of ¼ inch. There are 44 ranks (or sets) of pipes. The façade of pipes you see at the front of the sanctuary are real speaking pipes, and are made of flamed copper, polished zinc and polished copper. The console is movable for worship and recital needs.
The Trompettes en Chamade (horizontal trumpet pipes at the top center of the casework), the 25-bell chime system, and the cymbelstern (ethereal tinkling bells) are part of our organ thanks to generous memorial and honorary gifts.
Built to the highest possible standards both materially and tonally, this instrument will serve and lead us in worship for generations to come.
